LOVE: The cute puppy/dog you have bought home will be good for your whole families health .. it is a know fact that pet owners enjoy better health than people who do not own a pet .. it is vital to ensure your pet is kept healthy and happy to reap the benefits that your pet can bring you. |
CARING:
The following information is meant to provide a very basic overview of caring for your pet .. it does not cover every aspect of pet care .. we strongly recommend that you contact your local vet to ensure the welfare of your pet. |
NUTRITION and EXERCISE:
Your puppy/dog needs the right kind of nutrition and exercise to grow into a healthy adult dog .. this healthy lifestyle must continue through the dogs adult life .. this will ensure a long happy life. |
BAD HABITS:
Overweight dogs are more prone to joint problems .. heart disease .. diabetes and other diseases .. dogs that do not get enough exercise may become bored and then become destructive .. digging holes .. pulling cloths off the line .. chewing on thing that are not theirs .. these bad habits help to keep themselves amused! |
WATER:
Always have plenty of clean water available for your dog .. dogs can die of dehydration in 20 minutes .. 6 minutes in a locked car. |
TRAINING:
Socializing and early training are essential. |
| Dog owners must teach their dogs the rules of acceptable behaviour and conduct .. this is done with kindness and positive re enforcement .. there are many dog training schools to choose from .. your vet can help you make the right choice also .. you will find the time spent at a training school very warding for your dog and yourself. |
REGISTRATION:
Registering your dog with your local council is compulsory in most areas .. this will ensure that if your animal escapes from your yard and is picked up by an animal control officer or a member of the public and taken to the pound or an animal refuge you will be contacted and the dog returned to you .. a number of owners are now micro chipping their dogs for extra safety .. this can be arranged through your local Vet. |
